The Meta Account Plateau Checklist

Twelve signals that your ad account has quietly hit a ceiling, and the lever to pull for each one. Most plateaued accounts show at least four of these.

Spend and scaling

Every time you raise budget, ROAS drops within days

Lever: scale in 20% steps instead of big jumps, and duplicate proven winners rather than inflating one campaign. Big raises reset learning and buy worse traffic first.

CPA has crept up for three straight months while you changed nothing

Lever: that's usually creative fatigue wearing a costs-are-rising costume. Check how old your top spending ads are before blaming the auction.

You're scared to touch the account in case it breaks

Lever: too much revenue is riding on too few ad sets. Build a testing campaign that's structurally separate from your winners, so trying things can't hurt them.

Creative

Your top three ads have been running for 60+ days

Lever: check frequency on your core audience. Past 3 to 4, you're paying to annoy the same people. Winners need successors before they die, not after.

New creative ships "when someone has time," not on a schedule

Lever: a fixed weekly testing rhythm beats sporadic bursts of inspiration. Even two new variations a week compounds into a creative library that scales.

You can name your best ad, but not your best angle

Lever: group your ad history by message (price, problem, social proof, ingredient, speed) and total the revenue per angle. The winning angle is the brief for everything you make next.

Measurement

Ads Manager revenue doesn't match your store's revenue

Lever: audit your pixel and Conversions API health in Events Manager. If Meta can't see your real sales, it optimises toward the wrong people, and every other number is fiction.

You only ever look at blended ROAS, never new vs returning customers

Lever: split reporting by new customer ROAS. Retargeting people who would have bought anyway makes an account look healthier than it is.

You judge performance on the last 7 days and have never analysed the full account history

Lever: your account history is a paid-for research library: every angle, offer, audience and season you've ever tested. Read all of it once and you'll stop repeating expensive experiments.

Strategy

Your prospecting vs retargeting split hasn't changed in six months

Lever: revisit it quarterly. Most plateaued accounts over-feed retargeting because it looks efficient, and quietly starve the prospecting that actually grows the brand.

Decisions happen at a monthly review, not during the month

Lever: fatigue, fatigue-driven CPA spikes and broken tracking cost money daily. Move to a weekly (ideally daily) decision cadence, even if it's 15 minutes.

Your reporting tells you what happened, never what to do next

Lever: every report should end with actions: kill this, scale that, test this next. If yours doesn't, it's a rear-view mirror, not a steering wheel.
